Family History

Who we are

The Family History Group started in 2018, partly inspired by a number of members having attended a Family History course at Denman, some years before.

The Group welcomes members who are just starting out on their journey and those who are at a more advanced stage of discovery about their family.

We discuss various useful sources in depth, such as parish, workhouse and criminal records (yes, most of us will find the odd ‘black sheep’ in our families, at times when the most minor transgressions could condemn people to being whipped, or transported!).

Members of the group have recently been collaborating on a project to research the life and family background of Reginald Hall, a driver in WW2, who is honoured with a Commonwealth War Grave in Piddington Churchyard, but who doesn’t appear on the War Memorial, having died of his injuries after returning home. The resulting booklet will be placed in Piddington Church.

Advances in DNA have added exciting new tools to researching our ancestors. Members enjoy sharing their triumphs, problems and frustrations that come with family history research!

The Group would give a warm welcome to other members who would like to discover who they are!
